The Power of Self-Control

A gentleman was always eager to be intimate with his wife.

“You don’t have even a bit of self-control,” his wife scolded him once. “Look at our neighbor Deenanath. How much control he has over himself! He used to smoke so many cigarettes. He completely quit smoking just like that!”

“Is that so?” the gentleman roared. “Fine! I’ll also show you how much willpower I have. From today onwards, we will sleep in separate rooms.”

This separation continued for several weeks.

Then one night, there was a gentle knock on his door.

“Who is it?” he asked.

“Me,” he heard his wife’s voice from outside.

“What is it?”

“I came to tell you,” his wife said in a very sweet voice, “that Deenanath has started smoking again.” 😁😁😁😁😁😁

Story Summary:

A husband, constantly seeking intimacy with his wife, is challenged by her about his lack of self-control. She compares him unfavorably to their neighbor Deenanath, who successfully quit smoking. Determined to prove his willpower, the husband decides they will sleep in separate rooms. After several weeks of this arrangement, the wife comes to his door late one night with sweet news: Deenanath has resumed smoking—a clever hint that perhaps it’s time to end their separation as well.

Moral of the Story:

Self-imposed restrictions and willpower have their limits, and sometimes the greatest strength lies in knowing when to let go of stubborn pride. The story humorously illustrates that extreme measures taken to prove a point often backfire, and that balance and understanding in relationships are more valuable than rigid self-control. It also suggests that human nature and desires are natural, and suppressing them unnecessarily can be counterproductive.
