Beyond the Pursuit

A story of finding happiness where you least expect it.

After the vagina, the breasts are arguably the most sensitive part of the body; they play a crucial role in initiating lovemaking and arousing a man.

“Won’t you even let me eat? Have some mercy on me. I deal with office stress all day, work myself to the bone for you, and when I finally come home for a moment of peace, all I hear is your nagging. I’m human, for God’s sake—not a machine.” Weariness and frustration were evident in Armaan’s voice.

“Oh, sure, I’m the one who’s always wrong. You’re the saint here, Armaan. Money is earned to live life; we don’t live just to earn money. If we aren’t around, what will you do with all this cash? Do you even remember the last time you spent time with the kids and me?” There was pain and anger in Priya’s voice.

Seeing the argument escalate, Armaan picked up his keys and walked out of the house without a word. Instead of getting into his car, he started walking. He didn’t even know where he was going. At the far end of the colony, the sound of soft voices coming from the watchman Vijay’s quarters made him stop in his tracks.

“You haven’t eaten yet?” Vijay’s voice drifted out.

“When have I ever eaten without you before? Why would I start today?” his wife replied with a smile.

“You’re crazy; don’t do that. You’ll get sick.”

“You’re here, aren’t you? Just seeing you makes everything better.” Then, a brief silence followed.

Armaan froze right there. It struck him that the real difference between his wealth and Vijay’s poverty lay in peace of mind. He took out his phone and dialed Priya’s number.

Priya answered but didn’t say a word; perhaps she was trying to stifle her sobs.

“I’m sorry, Priya. I truly apologize. You’re right—I earn for you, yet I end up neglecting you. It won’t happen again. Please forgive me.” There was sincerity in Armaan’s voice.  “You’re being absolutely ridiculous. Who cries like a child like this? Come home now; let’s have dinner,” Priya said.

“No, bring the kids and meet me at the gate. We’re going out to eat today. Just give the home-cooked meal to Vijay.”

A short while later, Priya arrived at the gate with the children. Instead of taking them to a fancy hotel, Armaan took them to a small *dhaba*. Smiling, Priya said, “How did you remember? You know how much I love *dhaba* food.”

They laughed and joked throughout the meal. It had been years since Armaan had seen his family so happy. Upon returning home that night, he embraced Priya just as he used to in the early days of their romance. There was a sense of peace and happiness in Priya’s eyes. Armaan realized just how far he had strayed.

The next day, on his way to the office, he called out to Vijay.

“Tonight, you and your family are having dinner with us. Be ready.” Vijay couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Often, employers would give away leftovers, but no one had ever invited them home for a meal.

That night, Vijay and his family arrived at Armaan’s house. Priya welcomed them warmly. That evening taught Armaan that the true joy of life lies in relationships, not in the race for money. Vijay’s innocence and Priya’s love had shown him the way back to peace.
